April has no planets in retrograde! While that is usually a cause for celebration, the star of this month is Mars. The Planet of War will be in his home sign of Aries. Headstrong Aries. Act first, think later Aries. The over-confidence of a frat boy who just won an arm wrestling contest and now thinks he can take on a UFC fighter...Aries.

On a global scale, April will be a volatile month. Military actions and financial spirals continue. Your personal life doesn’t have to be as dramatic, though. Most people will feel motivated to tackle projects they’ve put off or decide to take a more active role in steering their own lives. Below are some predictions and a tarot spread to help you navigate this energy.

Astrological Transits in April 2026

Full Moon in Libra April 1

Mars enters Aries on April 9

Mercury enter Aries on April 14

New Moon in Aries on April 17

Sun enters Taurus on April 19

Venus enters Gemini on April 24

Uranus enters Gemini on April 25

World Predictions

*World means these are not necessarily in the United States.

Early April

  • A major loss in the financial industry.

  • More whistleblowers and leaks reveal embarrassing or negative information (similar to the current Noem scandal).

  • A political leader loses most, if not all, support.

  • Military activity related to oil, accidents, or civil unrest

  • Entities with financial interests being affected become more vocal about current events (money talks)

Mid-April

  • An emotional plea on the public stage (big enough that you’ll probably see this on the news)

  • An authority figure’s decision in a conflict makes a lot of people really upset (sorry to be so vague with this one, but put two and two together)

  • The public questions their leader…on a very large scale

  • Public sentiment becomes (more?) hostile towards governments

  • A country makes a major and unexpected change (reactionary in nature)

  • Conspiracy-related crime is revealed

  • A major resource (land, food, water, or energy) is either captured or destroyed. Either way, it will be unavailable to some.

  • A big show of military strength. Remember that it is a show…a performance…probably done as a desperate form of PR to regain public approval

  • Celebrities become more vocal. Governments may try to retaliate against vocal celebrities.

April 23rd (This day stands out)

  • Um… really good news. I would watch the news and social media closely on this day because certain announcements may be important in the long-run. And/or a solution to an ongoing problem could be announced. Actually, if it’s not obvious on the day-of, save as many articles as you can on this day and circle back at the end of the year to see which world update from this day turned out to be more important than expected.

Late April (April 24th — May 4th)

  • Beware of propaganda, especially as it pertains to faith and political philosophy

  • Leaders will attempt to sway public opinion using religious concepts instead of logical/strategic ones

Personal Predictions

  • It will become obvious where you let others overstep your boundaries

  • Even though Mercury is not retrograde, there’s a lot of miscommunication and forgetfulness

  • You may overestimate or underestimate your ability or those of other people

  • A great time to work on, and complete, projects you’ve been avoiding

  • You and others may be more direct and impatient with each other

  • There may be unexpected changes in finances (negative or positive)

  • A great time to work with your hands or in nature (late April)

  • People may feel more social than usual (late April)

  • Relationships (old and new) may feel intense (late April)

Tarot Spread for April 2026

The tarot spread for April maps out astrological pressures. The goal is for you to be able to take deliberate action instead of reacting to the chaos. It’s shaped as a spear to represent direct, piercing action. You don't need to fall victim to volatility. You can get to the end of the month by piercing through the chaos and flying straight towards your goals.

Card 12: Overarching message for April. Center image is of a spade with twelve numbered blue boxes outlining the image.

Card 1: What boundaries need to be clarified?

Emotional exhaustion and blurred lines between your own duties and those you took on for others will be highlighted early in the month. Remember that boundaries are yours to enforce.

Card 2: Where am I likely to face miscommunication?

Mercury may not be in retrograde, but it’s still in its detriment. Information may be unclear, plans may change, and people may forget who said what. And with all the overconfidence floating around this month, people in your life may be wrong and certain at the same time. This card will show you what area of life you can expect to experience this.

You can read this card as a specific area of life represented on the card or by applying the situation in the card to the affected area of life. For example, if you pull the Eight of Cups, then I would begin by narrowing down the areas of life to relationships, home, mental health, or spirituality. And then narrow down further using my intuition and considering what other cards I pull in the reading.

However, I could reverse engineer it by beginning with the situation on the card. The card shows a departure. What have you left behind recently? If you walked away from a relationship within the last three months, then the miscommunication may have to do with relationships. If you dropped out of college, then the miscommunication has to do with education and higher learning. If you quit a job and are still dealing with the consequences of the loss, then the miscommunication could have to do with a job opportunity.

The miscommunication does not necessarily have to do with the same situation, just the same theme. So if we conclude that you will experience a miscommunication in relationships, it doesn’t mean it will be with the same ex. We only used the situation depicted in the card to lead us to the general area of life that will be affected.

Card 3: What kind of financial shift can I expect?

This month’s volatility will also be experienced in finances. Volatility does not necessarily mean that it’s a negative. Some people may experience a windfall of cash (fingers crossed that you’re one of them). When pulling this card, ask yourself if it’s usually considered a “negative” or “positive” card. RIP if you get The Tower. (Just kidding…sorta). Some examples:

  • Five of Cups — Negative

  • Six of Pentacles — Positive

  • Two of Swords — Negative

  • Knight of Swords — Negative

  • Queen of Wands — Positive

But also consider the context.

The Devil is usually a negative card, but it also represents Capricorn. I dare you to accuse a Capricorn of being bad with money. If you are a Capricorn and you also pull The Devil, then I would not assume the worst.

The Justice card is usually fair and neutral. So if pulled when asking about swings in finances, I would usually say it represents stability and no real swing in either direction. However, if you know that you’re being sued for child support or unpaid rent, then maybe the Justice card is warning you about the financial spiral you’re going to experience. Context matters.

Card 4: How will my relationships be affected?

Again, Mercury is not in retrograde, but you wouldn’t know it with the way people from your past will be jumping out of the bushes. You or people from your past may feel a pull to revisit old relationship wounds early in the month. Towards the end of the month, new and old relationships may feel intense, flirtatious, and unexpected. This card will show you how your relationships will be affected by these energies.

Card 5: What project or initiative should I start or prioritize?

Mars in Aries likes action, action, action. Now is a great time to prioritize projects that need to be initiated by you. What will you start this month?

Card 6: How can I best channel restlessness?

Think about how restless you feel when you have pent up energy. Yes, you could start the project mentioned in Card 5, and yes, Card 6 may be a follow-up to Card 5. But also ask yourself if there’s another way to deal with all of this energy?

This card is meant to show you constructive ways to deal with restlessness. If you get The Tower, that does not mean Gem told you to burn it all down! In this position, I would interpret The Tower as suggesting metaphorical “controlled burns.” Delete old files. Pull weeds from your garden. Go to a rage room. These are “destructive” acts that can help deal with restlessness in a constructive way.

If you pull the Nine of Swords in this position, it may be suggesting that you channel the restlessness by creating a conscious window and space for it. This could be doing by doing jumping jacks at the start of your lunch break or recording voice memos in your car after work to rant about your day. If you feel that the Nine of Swords reflects real anxieties in your life, this could be also suggest tackling restlessness by addressing parallel anxieties. If you’re anxious about your finances, update your budget instead of biting your nails. If you’re afraid of political conflict coming to your doorstep, work on a safety plan and research best practices to keeping your family safe.

The card that you pull here should indicate how to overcome the restlessness, not add to it.

Card 7: How can I work with (rather than against) impatience?

A season of high energy and restlessness comes with a dose of impatience. It’s only natural. So why fight it? Card 7 will instruct you on how to work with your impatience instead of going against it. If you were to pull The Emperor for Card 7, I would say you need to create structure as a container for your impatience. Give yourself a schedule to work on the tasks you’re dying to commence. Channel The Emperor’s leadership and delegate (or automate) the tasks that are keeping you from your goal.

On the other hand, if you were to pull The World card, I would say your impatience is a symptom of being able to see the end goal in your mind, but unable to see the journey that will get you there. You can use this to your advantage by working backwards. End goals -> tactics -> strategy. Celebrate milestones instead of focusing on the larger goal that is still just outside of your physical reality.

Card 8: Where do I need to be extra careful to avoid accidents, conflicts, or burnout?

Impatience, restlessness, and overconfidence is a recipe for accidents and conflicts. Be extra careful on your commutes, but also in any situation where you might butt heads with others.

The burnout may appear if you are motivated to start too many projects at the same time and with little support. Card 8 will show you which area of life you’ll need to be extra careful in.

Card 9: What mindset will keep me centered

You can’t walk around all of April feeling impatient and restless or getting into fights with all of your co-workers. This is where spirituality can benefit your secular reality. Card 9 will help you find tools to keep yourself grounded and centered while the energy builds in your life and around the globe.

Card 10: Where can I find support or collaboration?

(If you’re binging my posts, take a shot every time I mention community.) There will be opportunities to trip and fall over unexpected connections. For most people, these will appear at social events, creative spaces, or through technology (social media, forums, etc). Mars in Aries energy is very independent, but you and I both know that you can’t go at this world alone. Where will you find purposeful collaboration? Where can you build community and build something meaningful together?

Card 11: What illusion or hidden influence do I need to see clearly?

The word of the decade is propaganda. Learn it. Study it. Don’t fall for it. (Unfortunately, no one is immune to it and we can all fall for some it at any given time. Just don’t make it easy for them.)

Illusion and hidden influences come in many forms. Besides propaganda, you may experience it through over-optimism, over-confidence, or some other form of self-deception.

Card 11 will show you where you are most vulnerable.

For example, if you were to pull the Six of Swords for Card 11, I would say to be careful about accepting a resolution too quickly. You are vulnerable to any messaging that tells you that a crisis is over and that it’s safe to look away. Consider the imagery of the card. In the case of the Six of Swords, it implies that hidden influences will try to convince you have reached “calm waters,” when in fact the same swords (conflict, debts, whatever issue you were dealing with) are still in the boat with you.

On the other hand, if you were to pull of the King of Wands for Card 11, I would say you’re vulnerable to the words charismatic leaders, pundits, or movements that confidently project a “burn it all down” mentality. You are drawn to strongmen and fierce orators. Remember that a loud voice doesn’t equal a competent voice.

You could also be the King of Wands in your own life, deceiving yourself into believing that your own passion and drive makes you immune to error.

Card 12: What is the overarching message for me this month?

Self-explanatory I hope. This is your summary card. What will be the overall vibe this month? What will be the long-lasting impact of this month in your personal life?

For example, pulling the Seven of Wands might indicate that you will be on the defensive for most of the month. That you will need to be vigilant and speak up more than you’re accustomed.

On the other hand, The Empress would indicate that this month will be abundant and creative amid all the chaos. I would say that the person who pulls The Empress for Card 12 will be able to transform this month’s high energy into a sustainable and tangible output, especially in an earthy way (gardening, cooking, caring for animals, making art, sex, etc).

And that is your April 2026 Tarot Spread! Thank you for making it this far. If you use this tarot spread, share your tarot reading on Instagram or TikTok and tag @gemblackthorn. April 2026 will not be a quiet month. Not on a global scale. Not on a personal level. I am, and will always be, a chalice half-full kind of girl, and I choose to see this energy as an opportunity for all of us to stop planning and start doing. The economy is so bad that it’s just as profitable to work on our dreams as it is to work a 9‑to‑5. The world is so chaotic that no one will notice when you stumble towards your goals. This month, all you need to do is get started and keep going.

I hope this tarot spread inspires you to thrive in the month of April.
